I spent some time with the belt sander and cleaned up the lines.
I also began working on the rail bands.
This forms the basis for the rail profile.
I’ll do the rest of the shaping by hand using a rasp and a sanding block.
I’ll fine tune the rail profile as I go along.
Hand shaping the rails is one of my favorite parts of the build.
Its the time when you really start to get the feel of the board.
You shape a little, then run your hand down the rail to feel for imperfections that you can’t see, compare one side to the other as you go, site down the line, shape a little more, feel a little more, become one with the board… Its a Zen thing for sure.
