Hey Shain,
Thanks for stopping by.
I try to use recycled material as much as possible and also try to keep waste to a minimum.
I like to think it reduces environmental impact but hey, if it saves a few bucks too then win-win right?

Looking forward for this one to take shape! You've piqued my interested. I'm always on the prowl materials that don't come from the lumberyard! (yeah, I've been known to dive in a few construction site dumpsters)

Hugh,
Thanks for checking in.
First off, I can't take credit for the parallel profile method. It was developed by a fellow named Roy Stewart. You can check out his handy work at olosurfer.com.
The parallel profile boards I have done have no fiberglass at all, just a few coats of epoxy resin.
Actually that's not entirely true, I did use fiberglass to attach and reinforce the fins on my parallel profile thruster, and I used fiberglass threads to fashion the leash loop. I did not, however glass the whole board.
Some of the other boards on this site are glassed in a more traditional sense.
With wood construction it really depends upon the thickness of the deck planks and the internal structure of the board.
With the fishbone frame method there are larger stretches of unsupported deck plank so you either have to use sturdy wood or you have to use a layer of glass to add some strength. With the parallel profile method there is not as much unsupported deck so you can afford to skip the fiberglass if you want to. Some guys use glass anyway just because it adds strength, protects from dings and acts as insurance against leakage so its really a matter of preference.
I prefer to skip the glass whenever I am able. It somehow seems purer that way to me.

I have been looking through your shots of your parallel profile construction and while i am totally impressed by your inexpensive build technique....I am vague on one thing, is there glass at all? or is the board just sealed with exterior finish coats?

Hugh in Canada!!

Hey Will,
Sorry for the late reply.
Its been a while since I've checked in and to be honest I've been neglecting this site a bit lately.
I got discouraged by the amount of spam I've been getting and I guess I got lazy.

Anyway, Glad to have you on board.
I'd love to see some pics of that RS Dragon that you built.

How's she ride?

Hi, nice approach to life and reflected nicely in the boards. Have made a Roy Stewart dragon and the guy is great. Knowledgeable and very open with it. Wishing you all the best for the future.
